Hello Painted Lavender

Enjoy Each Moment

"That it may never come again is what makes life so sweet…" Emily Dickinson wasn't the only one to notice that or write something down about it. I'm feeling particularly lucky, grateful, and apparently nostalgic in my need to share this thought. I made this card a little late for Cath's last Trigger Tuesday over at Moxie Fab World--I'm often late in getting things done when overcome by the moments right in front of me. It comes from the tradition of being a military family. We celebrate things when we can, where we can, and try to make the most of every moment.
You see, military folks know that they aren't always going to be able to celebrate special days the same day they fall on the calendar. They usually can't plan on attending ticketed events together because, if you're an aircrew family, planes will always break down for the one day you spent your entire quarter's expendable income on tickets to "The Nutcracker." Of course this is only a problem when the service member is actually "home" to even attempt this grand gamble of fate. Most often it seems they are deployed far away-actually living a different day/night from you and even in the age of instant communication it's difficult to talk in sync.
But back to the Trigger and this card. I sometimes get an idea for something and I just have to see it through. And here is a little more nostalgia for you: living in Japan made a big impression on our family as we recognized a kindred feeling for treasuring a moment, or an essence of something. When I saw the red leaves from the creative prompt I wanted to capture the idea/moment of the precise ending of fall. That last leaf which would hit the ground ending my favorite season to begin another.
Endings mean beginnings too which brings me back to remembering the military life. We were always leaving and arriving and marking the passages of moments and people. Some had a little trouble with the sadness, most celebrated the joys of experiencing change. For change brings the potential of promise.
And Emily had something to say about that too:

"Hope is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -"

  1. Thank you, Deb, for this beautiful card and for the lovely sentiments behind it. I'm glad this isn't good-bye for us, just a different way of saying "hello." Thanks for all the love and support you have shown me and the Moxie Fab World over the years, and I'll see you 'round the old 'Shire, I'm sure! :)
