Pals Hop: Create Your Own Background

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop!

This month, the theme is Create Your Own Background. We really hope that you will be inspired by all the amazing creations the Pals are sharing with you! As you hop from blog to blog, we would love for you to leave a comment. You will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

   How's Life Friends?

One of my favorite things to do when stamping is to create my own DSP/create something from a blank piece of white cardstock.

Back when I first discovered Stampin' Up!® and papercrafting during a home workshop at my neighbor's, we were a young Navy family with very little disposable income. I reveled in what I called "McGyver" stamping. I saved every interesting junk mail envelope flap paper, fruit netting, and other fun package/box materials to embellish my cards. [this was back before SU really did DSP;)] So, I love making my own backgrounds and creating something from scratch!

When dry embossing folders became a thing, I was hooked from the start, and it's one of the ways I love adding texture and interest to my cards. For the hop today I pulled out my Let's Set Sail Bundle and the new Into the Clouds folder:

I inked up the raised side of the folder with Pacific Point ink and used my shammy to wipe out the places inside the clouds where the ink accidentally migrated. I placed the paper--be careful since it's a one-shot thing--and ran it through the machine in the faux letterpress technique style. I love the color it made, and I used a regular Blender Pen to move the color around for accents.

I made a jig to put the boat piece in for stamping just the mast in some Sahara Sand to pick up the base card color. I had fun putting a tiny bit of color on the hull to look realistic.

The jib is flying and it reminded me of all the fun we used to have sailing on our old Hunter sailboat!

Hope you're up to adventures wherever you are!

    Be Well Friends!

More inspiration awaits, so use the lineup below to visit the rest of the Design Team. The Pals are excited to show you what they’ve created! Then, please mark your calendars for our next blog hop on August 10th. Our theme will be Seasons’ Greetings, where we will showcase projects inspired by our favorite seasonal time of the year.

Until then, have fun in your craft space.

  1. I have never had the nerve to ink up my embossing folder. But now I may give it a try. Your background, and card, is great! Thank you for the great idea and little nudge to try it!

    1. I'm so happy I could give a creative nudge friend! I also recommend getting the stampin' shammy, cutting it in half, and fourths--the smaller pieces are great for cleaning stamps on the Stamparatus;) Let me know how it turns out for you, and remember you can run the folder under water to clean it too!
